At Pendle Academy, we are proud to offer ISTD (Imperial Society Of Teachers Of Dancing) Ballet classes. These classes cater to students of all ages and skill levels, emphasising the development of strong technique, artistic expression, and a deep understanding of Ballet’s fundamentals. 

The curriculum is designed to build discipline and creativity while promoting physical fitness and mental focus. Students learn through a combination of Barre work, Centre Practice, and Choreography, gradually building their skills and confidence. The ISTD syllabus includes a variety of grades, allowing for continuous progression and assessment within a supportive environment.

Modern

ISTD Modern classes focus on contemporary dance styles that emphasise creativity, expression, and technical skill. These classes cater to students of various ages and abilities, offering a dynamic curriculum that encourages personal interpretation and innovation within dance.

The ISTD Modern syllabus incorporates a blend of techniques, including elements of jazz, contemporary, and lyrical dance. Students engage in exercises that build their strength, flexibility, and coordination while exploring a diverse range of movement styles. Classes typically include warm-ups, across-the-floor exercises, and choreography, allowing students to develop their performance skills and stage presence.

Tap

Our tap classes follow the ISTD syllabus, which focus on the rhythmic and expressive art of tap dance. These classes are suitable for students of all ages and skill levels, providing a fun and engaging environment to learn this dance style.

The ISTD tap syllabus emphasises the development of strong technique, musicality, and coordination. Students learn a variety of tap steps and combinations, progressing through different grades as they master new skills. Classes typically include exercises to build speed and clarity in footwork, and choreography that allows students to showcase their creativity and style.

Acro

Acro classes combine the art of dance with acrobatic skills, focusing on flexibility, strength, and coordination. These classes are designed for students of various ages and skill levels, providing a safe and supportive environment to explore this dance style.

The curriculum emphasises the development of foundational acrobatic skills, such as handstands, cartwheels, and various balances, while integrating dance elements to create fluid and expressive movements. Students learn how to execute acrobatic tricks and transitions with grace.

Tumbling

Our tumbling classes are designed to enhance students’ acrobatic skills using the AcroPAD – a specialised tumbling training tool. This unique apparatus provides a safe and supportive surface for practicing various tumbling and acrobatic movements. Classes cater to students of different ages and skill levels, allowing for a progressive learning environment.

During an AcroPAD tumbling class, students work on foundational skills such as rolls, handstands, cartwheels, and aerials. The AcroPAD helps improve body awareness, balance, and strength while reducing the risk of injur. We guide students through structured exercises and progressions, ensuring they develop proper technique and confidence in their abilities.

Our Tumbling classes can only be attended alongside our Acro classes.

Jazz

Jazz dance is a style that combines elements of ballet, modern, and popular dance forms. Suitable for students of all ages and skill levels, these classes emphasise rhythm, musicality, and self-expression through dynamic movements and choreography.

In jazz dance classes, students learn a variety of techniques, including isolations, kicks, turns, and jumps, which are essential for developing strength, flexibility, and coordination. The curriculum often incorporates a blend of traditional jazz steps and contemporary styles, allowing students to explore different rhythms and movements.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance classes blend elements of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance to create a unique and expressive style that emphasises emotion and storytelling through movement. These classes are suitable for students of various ages and skill levels, providing a platform for dancers to explore their creativity and artistic expression.

In lyrical dance classes, students focus on fluid movements, lines, and transitions, often set to music with meaningful lyrics. The curriculum typically includes warm-ups to enhance flexibility and strength, followed by exercises that develop technique, control, and musicality. Students learn how to interpret music and convey emotions through their movements, making lyrical dance a deeply personal and expressive art form.

Street

Street dance classes focus on the energetic and diverse styles that originate from urban culture. These classes are suitable for students of all ages and skill levels, offering a fun and dynamic environment to learn popular dance styles such as hip-hop, locking, popping, and breakdancing.

In street dance classes, students explore a variety of techniques and movements that emphasise rhythm, improvisation, and personal expression. Classes typically include learning foundational steps and choreography that reflect current trends in street dance. Instructors often encourage creativity, allowing students to incorporate their unique style and personality into their movements.

Strength & Flex

Our Strength & Flex classes focus on building strength, flexibility, and overall fitness specifically tailored to enhance dance performance. These classes are designed to support dancers of all ages and skill levels, providing essential training to improve their physical abilities and prevent injuries.

In a Strength & Flex class, students typically engage in a variety of exercises that target key muscle groups used in dance. This may include bodyweight movements, resistance training, core workouts, and flexibility exercises. We are proud to be certified Alixa Flexibility instructors, and we also use training methods by Radar Technique & Samuel Downing to promote body awareness, alignment, and control.

PBT

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) classes focus on developing a dancer’s physical strength, flexibility, and overall technique through a structured approach that emphasises the understanding of muscle function and alignment. PBT is suitable for dancers of all ages and skill levels, offering a comprehensive training method that complements traditional ballet training.

In PBT classes, students engage in a series of exercises designed to enhance their ballet technique while building core strength and stability. The curriculum incorporates the use of various props, such as balls and resistance bands, to aid in the development of muscle memory and proper body alignment. These tools help dancers connect their movements to the underlying principles of ballet, improving performance.
